Twilight on the Trail

3 02 2011

Twilight on the Trail—S. Mitchell/L. Alter, 1936 (Recorded Feb 3, 2011) This tune debuted in the movie Trail of The Lonesome Pine, sung by character actor Fuzzy Knight. “Twilight” is one of those Hollywood/Tin Pan Alley songs that capitalized on the tremendous popularity of Western films during the Great Depression. Perry Como sang it, as did Nat Cole, Bing Crosby, and many others. The song is said to have been a favorite of FDR’s. Here I add a bit of banjo uke to get a taste of that high lonesome sound.
