Because We’re Kids

Because We’re Kids—T.S. Geisel/F. Hollander, 1953 (Recorded March 3, 2011) In honor of Dr. Seuss’s 107th birthday yesterday, I thought I’d record this song he wrote with Frederick Hollander for the 1953 film, The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T. I never saw the movie as a kid, but some years ago as I was channel surfing I came across the film and was entranced by its surrealistic sets and odd, trippy story line revolving around a boy, Tommy Rettig, who wants to escape from his cruel piano teacher, Dr. Terwilliker, played by Hans Conried. Michael Feinstein and Tony Bennett have made recordings of “Because We’re Kids.” Happy birthday, Dr. Seuss!

Hey Patsy, I had Dr Seuss books as a kid and, like you only saw The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T. much later – I have it on VHS video somewhere , must dig it out!
I had the pleasure of Reading some Cat in the Hat to some young kids a few years ago and was pleased that they were as entranced as I!
all the best,

It’s funny, but even at my advancing age, I remember Dr Seuss books from my own childhood. Enjoyed reading them to my own kids, too.
